Addis Ababa, June 14, 2018 (FBC) – The Central Committee of the Tigray People’s Libration Font (TPLF) concluded its emergency meeting yesterday.

The three-day meeting held 10-15 June, 2018 mainly deliberated on the recent decision of Executive Committee of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF).
In it meeting last week, the Executive Committee decided to accept and implement the Algiers Agreement and privatize state-owned enterprises.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Front said that it accepts both decisions taken by the Executive Committee.
However, it said, precautions should be made in the implementations of the decisions.
It further said the move lacks completeness since both decisions were made without the consultation of the EPRDF Council and affiliate parties.
TPLF finally called for urgent meeting of EPRDF’s Executive Committee and Council to look into and evaluate current affairs.

Addis Ababa, June 13, 2018 (FBC) – A person has been killed and seven others injured in conflicts that occurred in Welkite town of Gurage zone, SNNP regional state.

Administrator of the zone, Fetu Seman, told FBC today that several homes and shops were also set ablaze.
Stability has been restored now following the efforts of security forces, elders and residents, he said.
The cause of the conflict is a clash between fans of two football clubs, SNNP regional police commission said.
According to the commission, there was also minor conflict at the celebration of Fiche Chambalala, New Year festival of the Sidama people, in the city of Hawassa.

Addis Ababa, June 13, 2018 (FBC) - The 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico after their joint bid beat Morocco's proposal to host it.

The 'United 2026' bid was selected by FIFA member nations, winning 134 votes compared to 65 for Morocco.
The 2026 tournament will be the biggest World Cup ever held - with 48 teams playing 80 matches over 34 days.
"Football is the only victor. We are all united in football," US Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro said.
"Thank you so, so much for this incredible honour. Thank you for entrusting us with this privilege."
Of the 211 FIFA member nations, 200 cast a vote at the 68th FIFA Congress in Moscow on Wednesday, with the winning bid needing a majority of 104.
Canada, Mexico, Morocco and the US were exempt, while Ghana was absent after the country's government said it had disbanded its football association amid allegations of "widespread" corruption.
Three US territories - Guam, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico - were among the other member nations to not vote.
Both Mexico (1970 and 1986) and the United States (1994) have previously hosted World Cups.
Canada staged the Women's World Cup in 2015.

Addis Ababa, June 13, 2018 (FBC) - Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed sent a congratulatory message to the Sidama people on the occasion of their traditional New Year celebration of Fiche Chambalala.

In his message, the Premier said that “one of the historical glories and major standards of civilization in any society is the way they skillfully compute the calendar by using the formula that they have used to knowledgably determine key dates like their New Year celebrations by using the lunar system in the universe.”
He said that the nation is proud of the skills exhibited by the elderly in Sidama in determining key dates of their celebrations right up to the moments in minutes and seconds.
PM Dr Abiy noted that such a skill from the Sidama people is a national asset and cultural heritage not only for South Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Regional State but for the entire peoples of Ethiopia.
“The attractive preparations and celebrations of Fiche at the eve of the celebrations of Chambalala, the beauty, and wisdom as well paraphernalia conducted through the days of the celebrations surpasses generations of the peoples of Sidama as a living intangible heritage of mankind.
"I express my heartfelt delight and sincere admiration for this global heritage and for all those who labored to organize such an eventful occasion”, the Premier noted.
The Prime Minister wished peaceful celebrations and a year of forgiveness, love and unity for the people of Sidama and all who celebrate the occasion.
