  • Addis Ababa, July 5, 2018 (FBC) –Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed yesterday sent a message to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir days after clash erupted between farmers from both countries in the border area.

    The message was conveyed by Ethiopia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, during a meeting with President al-Bashir and Sudanese Foreign Minister, al-Dardiri Mohammed Ahmed, in Khartoum.
    “The message is about bilateral relations and regional issues” Dr Workneh said in a press statement.
    He added the two countries will work in cooperation and coordination to address all the problems that occur in the border area.
    Meanwhile, Ahmed said the Ethiopian Prime Minister and President al-Bashir have stressed on their countries determination to overcome such events.

  • Addis Ababa, July 4, 2018 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed will travel to the United States at the end of this month.

    The objective of his trip is to hold face-to-face meetings with Ethiopian Diaspora in the US, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
    It is also aimed at boosting the involvement of all Ethiopian Diaspora living in the US in the ongoing reforms, development, and democratization in their country of birth, it said.
    His trip will be held under the theme “demolishing the wall, let‘s build the bridge.”
    According the program, the Premier will meet Ethiopians in Washington, DC on July 28 and those living in Los Angeles on July 29, 2018.
    The Ministry invited all Ethiopians to participate in the meeting, regardless of their political ideology, religion, and ethnic background.

  • Addis Ababa, July 4, 2018 (FBC) –The Federal Attorney General said it has relieved heads of detention centers from their posts.

    According to Attorney General Berhanu Tsegaye, they were relieved of their posts for failing to discharge their responsibilities and respect prisoners’ human rights.
    They were replaced by new heads, he said.
    The Attorney General called on the new heads to respect and protect human rights in accordance with the constitution.
    Fana Broadcasting Corporate recently reported rights violation committed in various detention centers of Ethiopia.
    Those responsible for the abuse of human rights will face justice after the necessary investigations are completed, he said.

  • Addis Ababa, July 4, 2018 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed yesterday held talks with representatives of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council (EIASC) and Ethiopian Muslim Arbitration Committee.

    During the talks, the two parties agreed to resolve their issues peacefully and in accordance with Islamic teachings, according to Fitsum Arega, the chief of staff for the Prime Minister.
    Ethiopian Muslim Arbitration Committee expressed its support for the ongoing reforms in the country.
    In a letter sent to the Prime Minister, the Committee also raised five questions which concern the Muslim community.
