Addis Ababa, July 2, 2018 (FBC) - Pope Francis is hailing the “good news” that Ethiopia and Eritrea are willing to discuss peace prospects for what has been one of Africa’s longest-running conflicts.

Francis told the Catholic faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday that “in the midst of so many conflicts, it’s dutiful to point out an initiative that can be called historic.”
Ethiopia’s foreign minister said Thursday that the leaders of the two countries would meet soon.
The countries broke off relations when a border war began in 1998, five years after Eritrea won independence from Ethiopia.
Francis expressed hope that having the governments “speak together of peace” after 20 years would “turn on a light of hope for these two countries in the Horn of Africa and for the entire African continent.”

Addis Ababa, July 2, 2018 (FBC) –A delegation of the United Oromo Liberation Front (UOLF) led by Brigadier General Hailu Gonfa and Aba Nega Jara arrived in Addis Ababa yesterday to engage in a peaceful struggle.

Upon arrival at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, the delegation was welcomed by State Minister of Government Communication Affairs Office, Kassahun Gofe.
Kassahun on the occasion said the Front came to Ethiopia by accepting the invitation extended by the government exiled parties.
Deputy Chairperson and Executive Committee member of the Front, Brigadier General Hailu Gonfa for his parts stated that their arrival to home is to engage in a peaceful struggle.
UOLF is encouraged and supports the reforms undertaken by the government during the past three months, he said.
He further noted that the Front is ready to work with the people, political parties, and the government.
