International Clinical Laboratories (ICL) is one of the largest of independent clinical diagnostic centers on the African continent. ICL has opened its door for service in 2004 with the aim of “contributing to the maintenance and enhancement of the quality of life throughout Ethiopia” by encompassing a system of human and physical resources designed to meet the changing healthcare needs of the population it serves. Thus, SDR Program is closely linked to the Country Programming Paper (CPP) to End Drought Emergencies in the Horn of Africa and anchored in the over-arching Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP). This programme is implemented under the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Resources (MoALR), the respective decentralised bureaus and the GIZ. The SDR-Programme of GIZ supports the Ethiopian government’s endeavours to strengthen the drought resilience capacity of pastoralists and agro-pastoralists in selected pilot areas in Afar and Somali regions, by allowing them to adapt their livelihood system to a changing natural and socio-economic environment context in order to get a higher and more secured income. Title: Protection Specialist  Location: Dolo Ado, Somali region  Reports to: Protection Project manager  Start of Contract & Duration: 11 months   Posting date: May 4, 2018  ​ INTRODUCTION  The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an international non-governmental organization (NGO), has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC promotes and supports solutions to the problems faced by refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and migrants. The organization has offices across the region, and has been operational in Ethiopia since 2009.  With funding from bilateral and multilateral donors, DRC is currently implementing a range of activities across Ethiopia and Djibouti, including WASH and shelter provision, child and youth protection, gender based violence response, awareness-raising of migration risks, protection monitoring of migration routes, and livelihoods support for returning migrants or those at-risk of migration.  ​ PURPOSE OF THE JOB  The Protection Specialists will provide technical guidance and support to the local duty bearers in the woredas where DRC Protection programs are implemented in Somali region. He\She will support by enhancing the technical capacities of the duty-bearers in order to be able to address more efficiently the Protection needs of Internally displaced people in their respected woredas. He/She will develop training modules and manuals on protection issues identified through learning needs assessment. He/She will provide on going capacity building and technical guidance and will support the woreda social services on updating the service mapping and referral pathways as needed. The Protection specialists will be based either in Dolo Ado with frequent travels to the woreda of operations.
