    Role Purpose
    To support local photography needs, working closely with the Hub Design Manager and Regional marketing and communication teams. The Part-Time photographer will be responsible for attending key British Council events and managing projects which involve taking pictures and editing them for social media and press, ensuring all pictures taken align with our brand guidelines. They will drive a focus on standardisation of the images while still ensuring pictures taken meet the objectives of our events.
    Main Accountabilities

    Project Support:

    This role will be limited to the country in which the photographer will be based. The main role of the photographer will be to capture relevant images at events and at British Council offices which are in line with our brand guidelines. They will:

    Work closely with external partners and colleagues to produce high-quality photographic images.
    Use different techniques to enhance the photographs as required.
    Use photo manipulation software such as Adobe Suite to get desired results.
    Recommend creative ideas to exceed expectations of goals and objectives.
    Use artistic knowledge to enhance and compose photographs.
    Review sets of photographs and select the best results.
    Operate various photographic equipment such as single lens reflex cameras and film or digital cameras and lighting.


    Managing self and others


    Maintains brand standards/creative quality in region, supported by the Design Manager.
    Keeps abreast of production software and technology to ensure industry standards.
    Supports the implementation of the equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) framework for photography by demonstrating inclusion of diversity in creatives across both print and digital and implementing EDI recommendations.


    Relationship and Stakeholder Management


    Proactively builds and maintains collaborative relationships with internal peers and stakeholders to ensure integrated, joined up and future-proofed working.
    Acts as a Brand Ambassador, helping deliver a strong British Council brand.

    Minimum/Essential Qualifications:
    Relevant degree or demonstrable equivalent level of experience
    Role specific knowledge and experience:

    Proven experience as a photographer (please submit portfolio).
    Detailed knowledge of photography art and lighting.
    Strong creative presence and artistic flair.
    Able to follow instructions clearly to achieve desired results.
    Able to stand and move around for long periods at a time and willing to work post 5.00 pm.

    Freelancers and non-permanent workers will be paid either:

    A fixed fee for the entire project, based on their submitted rate card.
    An hourly rate for the time dedicated to the project, based on their submitted rate card.

    Final payments will be made within one month of project completion, following the submission and approval of all deliverables.

    Project completion is defined as the successful delivery of all agreed-upon deliverables, which may involve up to three rounds of feedback and revisions.

The communication activities are also to facilitate and support Brooke Ethiopia’s work on policy influencing, as well as education and awareness raising on equine welfare.Key Responsibilities and Duties1.   Coordinating and Managing Brooke Ethiopia’s (BE) Communication and Public Relations Activities:Develop and implement BE’s communication strategy in line with the international Brooke communication strategy. Be responsible for compliance with the Brooke’s brand guidelines to ensure standardized and consistent messaging to key stakeholders and the public. In consultation with the Country Representative, be responsible for managing reputation, appropriate public relations and marketing to maintain and enhance the BE’s image and visibility. Raise the visibility of BE at local and national events in public outreach and awareness initiatives and through the media (newspapers, radio, TV, magazines, etc.)Ensure that the work of BE retains a high visibility via the use of the media, contribution to in country publications.In consultation with the Country Director, be responsible for compliance with the Brooke brand guidelines.2.  Documentation and Communication of BE Experiences and Achievements:Solicit information on a regular basis (from BE direct programmes and from partners) for update in the website, blogs and other channels to meet the organizational goals.Identify and collect case stories, images and video clips to provide up-to-date information for fundraising team, for public communication and for regular programme reports.      Ensure a high level of information flow to the Country Director and the UK. Prepare periodic reports (e.g. annual reports) for public use (not technical report).Organize information, including photos and video clips for preparing proposals, reports, and other communication materials to donors and supporters. Provide support, arrange and coordinate BE meetings and events, as well as BE’s participation in public forums.Proper archiving of photographs, footage, and case stories.3. Identify and maintain database on local suppliers for photography, filming, design, printing, editing and related tasks that may be required by BE. In consultation with Finance and Operations Manager and the Country Director, coordinate and manage contracts and working relationships with communication related service providers (printers, designers, photographers, film makers, etc.).5. BE Staff and Partners’ Support and Capacity DevelopmentHandling and maintenance of BE’s audio-visual equipment. Ensure that BE staffs are kept up to date of web-based communication and information management system.Provide technical support to BE staff and partners’ staff on communication.Provide/Facilitate training and capacity building of BE and partners’ staff on communication related issues. Regularly update the BE and the Brooke UK relevant staff on issues from the media. 6. The project aims to strengthen civic and community-based actors’ capacity to engage in policy analysis, advocacy, dialogue, and collective action for peaceful, democratic change; and foster multi-stakeholder civic partnerships in support of inclusive dialogue, respect for human rights, and advancing more effective, citizen-responsive, and accountable governance. Position Summary:The Communications/ Outreach Officer will provide strategic direction to, and support the design and dissemination of, a broad range of communications products that will inform a diverse group of program stakeholders on the work of the project.   The Communications/Outreach Officer will be responsible for assigning and monitoring the work of communications-related contract staff and freelancers, and working closely with Creative’s Home Office Communications Unit in Washington D.C., to design and implement communications strategies, approaches and outreach materials and activities that effectively promote the program and results to an international and regional audience.  The Communications/ Outreach Officer will be based in Addis Ababa and will work closely with the Creative Home Office team, with the responsibility to manage communications activities across all the project’s implementation locations.  Reporting: This position reports to the MEL/CLA Director. ResponsibilitiesDesign and manage the implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy to create, build, and maintain the positive image of the project to stakeholders and the public;Incorporate required communications activities, outreach initiatives, and events into the project’s annual workplans to achieve the program’s internal and external communications goals;Review and revise communications products for external publication;Ensure compliance to the project’s Branding and Marking Plan;Support and manage the design and development of written, video and other communications materials and in-person activities that promote communication between the project and the USAID Mission, including project content suitable for dissemination on USAID channels;Support the editing, formatting and use of photos and graphics for USAID quarterly and annual progress reports and other major USAID-required project documents;Collaborate with the HQ Communications team on an as-needed basis to produce success stories, PowerPoint slides and other communications materials and tools for external-facing audiences; andResolve and mediate communications difficulties and crises on an on-going basis.Manage the activity’s contractors and freelancers.Provide administrative and technical support to outside subcontractors and consultants (such as public relation firms, translators, photographers, videographers, etc.) who prepare communications products funded by the project to ensure quality of content and design and compliance with USAID branding and marking requirements;Liaise with the USAID mission’s communications team and participate in the USAID communication Community of Practice. Writing and editing:Write and/or review assigned press releases, success stories, features and briefs, social media content, and content for USAID updates, newsletters and quarterly and annual reports; andCollaborate with HQ Communications to create and disseminate content through Creative’s channels.Edit quarterly and annual reports for USAID.Outreach & events:Maintain strong relationships with public relation companies providing technical assistance for the project;Support the organizing of events, inaugurations, and webinars based on the needs of the project in collaboration with project staff, USAID, local governments, and other stakeholders; andCoordinate all communications aspects of in-person events and webinars, including promotion, program content for programs, registration materials and related items within the project and with USAID as appropriate.
