Project Coordinator
Duties and Responsibilities:
The project coordinator will have the following duties and responsibilities:
Search published and unpublished documents (journal articles, brief communications, abstracts presented in international and national conferences, policy, program and strategic documents) related to maternal and child cause of death in Ethiopia since 1990
Engage in the design of census tools to capture childhood and maternal death during the 2018 census
Involve in the training of data collectors and other field staffs on how to capture death during the 2018 census
Identify study Kebeles for the post census cause of death identification project areas in collaboration with the CSA
Retain/recruit some best performing data collectors in the 2018 census to work as data collectors for the post census cause of death identification planned for this project
Heavily engage in the adaptation of verbal autopsy data collection tools to identify maternal and childhood cause of death at a community level
Engage in the translation of designed verbal autopsy data collection tools into the local language
Engage in the training of the GRADE infrastructure platform
Involve in the training of data collectors on how to use the GRADE infrastructure to capture causes of death data
Monitor field staffs in the capture of cause of death data using the GRADE infrastructure platform
Involve in the recruitment of physicians that will work as coder physicians using the ICD-10 standard
Involve in the training of coder physicians to assign causes of death using signs and symptoms captured by lay data collectors
Engage in the recruitment of data managers that will be involved in the management of the cause of death data using the GRADE infrastructure platform
Facilitate the trainings of data managers on the management of cause of death data using the GRADE infrastructure platform
Prepare technical and financial report for IDRC and submit it for the project PI for approval before it is submitted for IDRC
Engage in the proposal write-up to secure more funding to scale-up the project in wider areas to capture more childhood and maternal causes of death
Involve in the preparation of the database to prepare journal articles to be submitted for publication
Organize a series of dissemination workshops in collaboration with the Principal investigator
Prepare brochures and pamphlets that will be used to disseminate main findings of the project during the dissemination workshops
Secure renewal for Institutional Clearance from the Ministry of Science and Technology
Liaison the project to Central Statistical Agency, Vital Registration Agency, Ethiopian Public Health Institute and Ministry of Health
Will act as a focal person for the Canadian and Ethiopian research team members and report
Employment Type: One year with the possibility of contract extension
Job Requirements
Required qualification:
Masters of Public Health, Demography or Statistics with no service year or four years of relevant experience with Bachelor Degree of Public Health, Demography or Statistics
Other requirements:
Excellent written and spoken English; and excellent interpersonal communication skills
