Senior Nutrition Project Officer

Job Purpose
The main purpose of the job is to oversee the proper coordination of HRF Emergency Response Project. S/he is responsible to discharge technical services relating to overall project development and implementation. To provide strategic guidance in Kohile, Godgod, Elkere, and Meayso woredas, management to project staff member, and to strengthen IR Ethiopia Emergency Response project and administrative systems in compliance with IR policy and procedures.
Task & Responsibilities
Objective 1: Ensure the effective implementation of program activities and team management
Activities:
· Ensure the implementation of activities defined by the Nutrition Advisor in coordination with the field logistics and administration teams
· Develop plan of work for both OTP/SC and SFP activities according to the expected progress of the project
· Evaluate and update project needs (HR, financing, logistics)
· Liaise with concerned government authorities and ensure the programme strategy, objectives and activities are understood and agreed and appropriate communication channel is in place
· Ensure sound monitoring of program activities, linking with M&E units at field level
· Provide support to the CMAM/SFP Nurses by creating spreadsheets, maintaining databases and creating high quality reports
· Compile and submit weekly, bi-weekly and monthly routine OTP/SC and SFP report
· Involve in the preparation of key IYCF and health messages in reference to the existing health and nutrition education materials
· Organize regularly evaluation meetings of team members
· Organize monthly meetings with the team and report the outcome to the Nutrition Advisor
· Keep an updated register of the staff (absences, overtime)
· Supervise the daily and monthly reporting by the teams
· Help the OTP/SC and SFP team in any task when required
Objective 2: Supervise treatment activities at TFP and SFP
Activities:
Supervising admission of patients to OTP/SC and SFP
Supervising treatment and progress of patients
Ensuring adherence to and respect of current protocols
Analysing nutrition situation and prevailing trends
Compiling statistical data and draft appropriate reports on activities
Document lessons learned and best practices at the project level
Objective 3: Nutrition supplies and stock management
Activities:
Checking that all the supplies are listed in the register
Participate in the follow-up of supplies consumption and orders
Ensuring that stock levels are sufficient for the functioning of SFP and OTP/SC (weekly, monthly or quarterly)
Make monthly physical inventory of all nutrition supplies
Objective 4: Meeting and coordination with the relevant sectors
Activities:
Establish network with the other actors in the area
Develop productive working relationships with Government, Non-Governmental institutions and other project partners
Establishing linkage with community leaders and representatives
Participate in the relevant cluster meetings and other related forum at district level
Conduct regular meetings with other program staffs to discuss and document lessons learned
Assist in organization of project workshop and seminars, including preparation of short reports
Additional responsibilities

Inform the Nutrition Advisor of any professional problems encountered
Conduct all duties in a professional manner following Islamic Relief staff regulations and charter
Ability to handle multiple tasks on an on-going basis, and adapt to a shift or change in priorities, including the ability to work a flexible work schedule as needed to meet deliverable deadlines
Organize training courses
Draft agendas and record minutes of staffs meetings and answer office correspondence

Qualification and Skills Required
Essential:
Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce project reports
Ability to plan and organize work independently with appropriate follow through while paying close attention to detail and show initiative in completing tasks and projects in a timely manner
Ability to read and abstract information from a variety of formats
Supervisory and managerial skills with proven ability to manage a demanding workload
Training provision and teamwork abilities
Programme experience in the field of nutrition/health is advantageous
Previous experience working for NGOs an asset
Desirable:
A minimum of Bachelor Degree in nutrition or relevant field with at least 3 years of practical work experience in humanitarian operation and preferably Master’s Degree with 1 year experience
Computer literate, especially MS Word and Excel
Good knowledge of written and spoken English languages; and local languages (Somali) is compulsory
Familiarity with program area is highly desired
