We reach over 2 million working animals across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Our staffs include vets, animal welfare experts and advocacy and development specialists. Brooke’s vision has evolved as we want more for working equids than just the eradication of suffering. Thus, over the next few years Brooke works to meet the following Global Goals:Global Goal 1: Transforming equine welfare in communities helping them to thrive and become more resilient. Generally aimed at enabling the wider equine owning communities to bring attitudinal and behavioural changes towards equine welfare improvement in rural and urban areas.Global Goal 2: Influence the visibility and inclusion of equid needs in policy and practices at all levels, including disaster and emergency preparedness. Aimed at lobbying for animal welfare conducive Policies and strategies being endorsed and enforced. Working with empowered stakeholders and networks to be implement AW policies. This includes building on evidence on the contribution of working equids to people’s livelihoods, and undertaking coordinated actions with the global and regional networks against Donkey hide tradeGlobal goal 3: Develop sustainable animal health systems that meet the immediate and future needs of working horses, donkeys and mules. Working with key stakeholders to building the capacity of animal health providers, Farriers, working with universities, promoting access to welfare friendly animal health infrastructures in hard-to-reach areas and promoting access to essential veterinary medicines to the health work force.Brooke is building on a movement of change, while developing an organization fit for the future and creating the best place to work and succeedPurpose of the RoleLeading and coordinating the communication activities of Brooke Ethiopia for increased Brooke’s visibility, and improved documentation and communication of programme results, experiences and success stories to different stakeholders (including donors), and for fund raising. The communication activities are also to facilitate and support Brooke Ethiopia’s work on policy influencing, as well as education and awareness raising on equine welfare.Key Responsibilities and Duties1. Coordinating and Managing Brooke Ethiopia’s (BE) Communication and Public Relations Activities:Develop and implement BE’s communication strategy in line with the international Brooke communication strategy. Be responsible for compliance with the Brooke’s brand guidelines to ensure standardized and consistent messaging to key stakeholders and the public. In consultation with the Country Representative, be responsible for managing reputation, appropriate public relations and marketing to maintain and enhance the BE’s image and visibility. Raise the visibility of BE at local and national events in public outreach and awareness initiatives and through the media (newspapers, radio, TV, magazines, etc.)Ensure that the work of BE retains a high visibility via the use of the media, contribution to in country publications.In consultation with the Country Director, be responsible for compliance with the Brooke brand guidelines.2. Documentation and Communication of BE Experiences and Achievements:Solicit information on a regular basis (from BE direct programmes and from partners) for update in the website, blogs and other channels to meet the organizational goals.Identify and collect case stories, images and video clips to provide up-to-date information for fundraising team, for public communication and for regular programme reports. Ensure a high level of information flow to the Country Director and the UK. Prepare periodic reports (e.g. annual reports) for public use (not technical report).Organize information, including photos and video clips for preparing proposals, reports, and other communication materials to donors and supporters. Provide support, arrange and coordinate BE meetings and events, as well as BE’s participation in public forums.Proper archiving of photographs, footage, and case stories.3. Working With the Media:Regular monitoring and analysis of media coverage, focusing on the civil society sector and equine welfareDevelop and maintain lists of (including mailing lists) of key media partners.Building and maintaining close working relationships with the media.Manage media communications, campaigns, and coverage. This could be managed in collaboration with Advocacy Advisor.Prepare media briefings, press releases and images for the pressReact speedily to media enquiries, organizing interviews and identifying spokespeople as appropriate.In consultation with Country Director and Advocacy and Find Raising Manager, network with relevant channels to build a reputation for the B-eth that will resonate with key stakeholders including partners.4. IEC Materials Work closely and provide technical support to the programme staff (BE and partners’) on the development of appropriate IEC materials (posters, leaflets, brochures, billboards, etc.). Work closely and provide technical support to the Policy coordinator in relation to the production and use of communication materials in the policy influencing work.Coordinate and lead the development of communication and promotion materials (video clips, posters, calendars, shirts, etc.) by the country office. Identify and maintain database on local suppliers for photography, filming, design, printing, editing and related tasks that may be required by BE. In consultation with Finance and Operations Manager and the Country Director, coordinate and manage contracts and working relationships with communication related service providers (printers, designers, photographers, film makers, etc.).5. BE Staff and Partners’ Support and Capacity DevelopmentHandling and maintenance of BE’s audio-visual equipment. Ensure that BE staffs are kept up to date of web-based communication and information management system.Provide technical support to BE staff and partners’ staff on communication.Provide/Facilitate training and capacity building of BE and partners’ staff on communication related issues. Regularly update the BE and the Brooke UK relevant staff on issues from the media. 6. GeneralPerform such additional tasks as may reasonably be required by the POM and the Country Director.Work with UK staff on the development and maintenance of BE website.In undertaking the role, comply with all Brooke global and country policies and procedures.As part of this role, there is a need to travel as required, sometimes at short notice, within the country or abroad.
