Who we areSOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.Why we need you?We are looking for a Livelihood Officer who will be responsible to provide technical and management support to families on the Project to develop and implement community based sustainable livelihoods initiatives via either promotion of employment-oriented initiatives and enhancing skills or engaging in income-generating activities. He/she will work to strengthen caregivers and young adults’ livelihood capacity to achieve sustainable income generation and be able to attain self-reliance.What we provide...An amazing work environment that promotes personal growth through providing professional space to grow and advance your careerYour role....Ensure effective and timely implementation of the livelihoods component of the Project and provide regular status updates of the annual plan implementation, particularly in terms of the achievement of agreed milestones, timelines, targets, result indicators and outcomes. This should be linked with the family development planning (FDP) and ‘anchor’ through the community-based partners serving as key implementing partner;Ensure that the organisation keeps its commitments, in terms of support services committed to in the FDPs action plans;Empower families to have improve household income to actively support the development of their children and be self-reliant; Support young adults and caregivers in setting up viable small-medium scale businesses with good business plan and link them to other funding source for business scaling-up and expansion;Implement skills-based innovative sustainable livelihood community initiatives that has a direct and immediate or short-term positive effect on the family’s socio-economic activities, aiming to reduce family’s vulnerability and increase their chances of being self-reliant;Identify skills and knowledge gaps in financial literacy and ensure necessary corrective measures are taken to fill the knowledge gaps;Develop and implement business coaching and mentorship for caregivers and young adult on the Project who have their own business;Develop internal monitoring and operational plans that helps improve Project implementation;Identify and develop opportunities for employment with emphases on gender equality and social inclusion to improve livelihoods of vulnerable households on our Project; Ensures regular monitoring visits to families to measure progress in their livelihoods and income generating activities and provide status updates to the PROJECT Coordinator;Support the delivery of any material support to families by the community-based partners, ensuring that appropriate accountability systems are in place and functioning properly;Where the community-based partners lack the capacity to effectively manage material resources, with efficiency and accountability, then support them in developing these skills and systems; as guided by the Project Coordinator;Support the organisation and facilitation of capacity-building support and group activities, such as support groups, self-help groups, childcare capacity building and children’s recreational activities; as guided by the Project Coordinator.Child Safeguarding:Responsible to ensure that all beneficiaries are receiving ongoing, age-appropriate verbal or written information in relevant languages about SOS Children’s Villages Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.Ensure that all support is provided on the best interest of the child.Responsible to take part in raise awareness raising sessions and capacity building trainings in relation to CS and Code of Conduct and to prevent and protect children and young people from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discriminationSupport children and young people to make them understand the CS risks and protection mechanisms Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the CS team at programme level and/or to the respective line manager
