Association of Ethiopians Educated in Germany (AEEG)Position — DAFI Focal PersonAEEG has been implementing the Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative Fund (DAFI) in the last couple of years. The program grants deserving young refugees scholarships t universities, colleges and polytechnics in their host countries; and has been sponsored since 1992 by the government of Germany. AEEG is looking for a full time focal person for the program implementation.Major Duties of the Focal Person
Ensures the timely disbursement of funds as per the DAFI policy and program guidelines for scholarship holders such as tuition, accommodation fees, clothing, pocket money, as well as specific medical assistance not covered by the Universities.Prepares annual budget proposals for on-going/new students as per the guidelines,Prepares proposals to improve on the effectiveness and efficiency of program implementation, and acquire additional funding,Keeps systematic records on scholarship holders and the support provided to them,Maintains regular contact with scholarship holders to follow up their status and encourage role models, and involvement of refugee students in socially meaningful activities,Provides regular counseling support as required, visits the students in their respective location and regularly contacting them (by phone or email) for counseling of the DAFI scholars and intervention on problems that may arise during their studies,Coordinates and negotiates with the respective authorities to facilitate registration and recognition of refugee school certificates,Undertakes efforts to waive or reduce high tuition fees to enable more students to enroll in higher education institutions.Facilitates placement of scholarship holders for industrial training.Provides assistance in preparation for employment of graduating scholarship holders,Organizes information workshops on the respective countries of origin/destination in preparation for the reintegration of scholarship holders,Organizes the DAFI social club and monitors its activities,Liaises with the EC of AEEG and its branches towards mobilization of members in support of program implementation,Prepares periodic activity and financial reports, andUndertakes other related activities towards the program implementation.
Accountability
The focal person will be accountable to AEEG.
Required Qualification and Experience
Advanced university degree in education and related fields,Professional experience in providing counseling within the context of migration,Excellent communication and reporting skills, fluency in speaking, writing and reading in English language, ability of German language is an advantage,Ability to work in a team,Very good computer application skills including database and spreadsheet programs andWillingness and ability to travel frequently.
