Addis Ababa, June 20, 2018 (FBC) -Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed today held discussion with residents of Welkite town in Gurage zone of the SNNP regional state.

The discussion which brought together elders and representatives of the community mainly focused on conflict that occurred last week in the town and its environs.
The city of Hawassa and Wolaita are also among the areas affected by the recent conflict that left 15 people dead in the SNNP regional state.
In today’s discussion, the Prime Minister responded to questions raised by participants, which among others include the cause of the conflict between Gurage and Kebena people in the zone. 
In his reply, the Prime Minister urged zonal and woreda leaders of Sidama, Wolaita, Gurage and Kebena to resign immediately by taking full responsibilities for allowing the conflicts to happen.
“I think they will do so,” he said.
The residents also raised questions related to problems of infrastructure and good governance.
The Prime Minister said the question regarding delay in infrastructure projects will get solution soon.
The Premier also urged the youth in particular, and the community in general to safeguard peace in the region and fight against forces who want to get political benefit by instigating ethnic conflicts.
