Addis Ababa, May 21, 2018 (FBC) –More than 1,000 Ethiopian prisoners freed by Saudi Arabia have returned home, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).
About 1,085 prisoners have touched down on Ethiopian soil following the discussion held between Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salamn, said MoFA in a statement sent to FBC today.
The Ethiopian Premier visited Saudi Arabia last week.
The Ministry, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), transported the returnees to their families, the statement noted.
Recently, the government of Sudan released about 1,400 Ethiopian prisoners following the visit of the Premier to that country.
Crown Prince of UAE, Mohammed bin Salamn, has also agreed to free all Ethiopian prisoners.
