The Federal and Regional Joint Security Council has called up on the public to maximize its pivotal role in restoring peace and stability in the country.

The Ethiopian Defense Minister, Siraj Fegessa, said that with cooperative woks of both the public and government, the country has now reassured peace and stability. The council is intensively working to ask violence advocators by the rule of the law accordingly.

During a press conference held today, Siraj said that the unrest and violence that has been observed in some parts of the country has now stabled and hence constitutional rights now are being appropriately exercised in the country.

He noted that with cooperative works of the society and the government it could be possible to arrest different weapons which were illegally stored in Assosa, Metema, Togochale and Gambella. 270 Kalashnikovs, 200 pistols 65,000 bullets and 1,000 machinegun bullets are arrested.

The inconvenience which was observed in some higher educational institutions has now managed and the teaching learning process has resumed, he said. Some members of the universities management have participated in aggravating the violence; the council is identifying those who took part illegally in this regard.

It was noted that over 1,000 students who were academically and disciplinary dismissed have also participated in the violence in 18 universities of the country.

Meanwhile, over 15 regional security members from Somali and Oromiya regional states are arrested for committing illegal and excessive measures during Somali and Oromiya border conflicts.

Fegessa has called up on the public to play its pivotal and irreplaceable role in keeping peace, security and unity of the country in parallel to pursuing strong commitment towards the fight against poverty at large.
