  • Addis Ababa, July 10, 2018 (FBC) - The United States welcomed the July 9 commitment to peace and security between Eritrea and Ethiopia, effectively ending 20 years of conflict.

    “We commend Prime Minister Abiy of Ethiopia and President Isaias of Eritrea for courageously leading their citizens towards peace, prosperity, and political reform,” said a statement issued by the U.S. Department of State.
    “The normalization of relations and the adoption of the Joint Declaration of Peace and Friendship between Eritrea and Ethiopia will provide their peoples with the opportunity to focus on shared aspirations for closer political, economic, and social ties.
    “The United States stands ready to support this process, and encourages all parties to continue working with transparency and confidence in the coming days.
    Peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea will further the cause of stability, security, and development in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea.”

  • Addis Ababa, July 10, 2018 (FBC) –Former Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives of Ethiopia (HPR) Abadulla Gemeda met Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon of South Korea, in Seoul.

    During the meeting, he briefed and passed messages of Prime Minster of Ethiopia, Dr Abiy Ahmed, according to the Ethiopian Embassy in Seoul.
    He briefed on the recent political development in Ethiopia as well as peacemaking efforts and regional integration in the horn countries.
    Furthermore, Abadulla explained how the Ethiopian government is working hard to create favorable conditions for investment.
    In this regard, he requested the Korean government to encourage Korean investors to invest in industrial parks and other areas of the country.
    For his part, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon said that his government will further support the new Ethiopian government's reform efforts and expressed hope South Korea's government and businesses will be able to contribute to the country's development.
