Addis Ababa, July 10, 2018 (FBC) - The United States welcomed the July 9 commitment to peace and security between Eritrea and Ethiopia, effectively ending 20 years of conflict.

“We commend Prime Minister Abiy of Ethiopia and President Isaias of Eritrea for courageously leading their citizens towards peace, prosperity, and political reform,” said a statement issued by the U.S. Department of State.
“The normalization of relations and the adoption of the Joint Declaration of Peace and Friendship between Eritrea and Ethiopia will provide their peoples with the opportunity to focus on shared aspirations for closer political, economic, and social ties.
“The United States stands ready to support this process, and encourages all parties to continue working with transparency and confidence in the coming days.
Peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea will further the cause of stability, security, and development in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea.”

Addis Ababa, July 10, 2018 (FBC) –Former Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives of Ethiopia (HPR) Abadulla Gemeda met Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon of South Korea, in Seoul.

During the meeting, he briefed and passed messages of Prime Minster of Ethiopia, Dr Abiy Ahmed, according to the Ethiopian Embassy in Seoul.
He briefed on the recent political development in Ethiopia as well as peacemaking efforts and regional integration in the horn countries.
Furthermore, Abadulla explained how the Ethiopian government is working hard to create favorable conditions for investment.
In this regard, he requested the Korean government to encourage Korean investors to invest in industrial parks and other areas of the country.
For his part, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon said that his government will further support the new Ethiopian government's reform efforts and expressed hope South Korea's government and businesses will be able to contribute to the country's development.

Addis Ababa, July 10, 2018 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed today met with Hafez Ghanem, World Bank Regional Vice President for Africa.

During the meeting, the two discussed how the World Bank can support Ethiopia in achieving its development objectives.
WB-IDA net overall commitments to Ethiopia stands 10 billion US dollars, making Ethiopia one of the largest beneficiary, according to Fitusm Arega, Chief of Staff at Ethiopia's PM Office.

Addis Ababa, July 10, 2018 (FBC) – The European Union (EU) welcomed the signature of the joint declaration between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

“The signature of the Joint Declaration of Peace and Friendship represents an historic and courageous move by Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed,” said Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the EU Commission.
“Breaking a twenty year old deadlock in bilateral relations, it raises unprecedented prospects for reconciliation and paves the way for enhanced regional cooperation and stability in the Horn of Africa,” she added.
She further said “the European Union stands ready to mobilise the support needed to consolidate the normalization of relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea and to build on new opportunities for regional cooperation.”
