Addis Ababa, June 25, 2018 (FBC) –Ethiopian Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu met the United States Under Secretary of Commerce Gilbert Kaplan in Addis Ababa today.
During the meeting, the two discussed a full spectrum of issues related to the Ethiopian economy and the bilateral commercial relationship.
The Under Secretary expressed support for Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed’s economic reform agenda.
He also conveyed his optimism regarding the potential for increased bilateral trade and investment.
They discussed challenges faced by U.S. companies doing business in Ethiopia, such as foreign exchange shortages, and ways to address them.
The Under Secretary and Foreign Minister also met with members of the President’s Advisory Council on Doing Business in Africa (PAC-DBIA) – U.S. company executives from a wide range of industries – and discussed the Ethiopian business climate.
During the visit, the companies will assess trade and investment opportunities in Ethiopia.
According to the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC), as of March 2018, there were nearly 251 U.S. investment projects active in Ethiopia.
The delegation is expected to hold talks with Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed and other high level government officials.
Ranges of Memorandum of Understandings are also expected to be signed during the visit.
