Addis Ababa, June 19, 2018 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed today held discussion on current issues with dwellers of the city of Hawassa, the capital of the SNNP regional state.

During the discussion, participants said perpetrators of the conflict do not represent the Sidama people.
They also expressed their demand architect of the conflict to face justice and called for reconciliation.
Among the question raised by the participants include the demand of Sidama people for regional self-determination, a question remained unanswered for the past 12 years.
The participants also asked questions related to problems of good governance, development, compensation for farmers and youth unemployment, among others.
The conflict that occurred during celebration of Fiche Chambalala, New Year festival of the Sidama people, shouldn’t have happened, said the Prime Minister while responding to the questions.
After thanking the Sidama people others for their efforts to avoid further escalation of the conflict, the Premier said “orchestrators of the conflict are enemies of the Sidama people.”
He said the government, in partnership with the public, will bring those responsible for the conflict and bloodshed to justice.
The question of the Sidama people for regional self-determination is constitutional; however, he said, the question should be asked constitutionally and will get answer based on the constitution.
The Premier also invited political parties that struggle for the Sidama people sheltering in various countries to come to home and conduct a peaceful struggle.
The Premier also responded to questions related to prisoners, problems of good governance, development, compensation, and unemployment.
After concluding his discussion in Hawassa, the Premier traveled to Wolaita Sodo town this afternoon for similar public consultation.
He will also head to Welkite town tomorrow.
The conflicts that occurred in the three cities last week left 15 people dead. Commercial centers were also ransacked.
In his address to the parliament yesterday, the Premier said the conflicts were coordinated by those forces who want to gain political profit.
He also urged these forces to refrain from instigating ethnic conflicts.
